My Pond

inspired by Lisa Fay Coutley
My pond is pissed off at the asshole who leveled her far bank to build ugly net-zero homes she could never afford. She hasn't slept much in two years and it is starting to show. She's more
gray than blue. She wants to study meteorology, to be the authority on the dangersof hurricane eyes, arcus clouds. My pond wants a weekly podcast with a catchy theme song
subscribers will hum in the shower. My pond is bored with daily meditations at her edges, laps at feet with contempt. She ripples yellow lilies toward her center, floods her shorelines.
Even the beaver lodge is out of reach unless I slice my feet on the wreck of drowned birches.
